A recycling center has been set up on the Jefferson Ruritan Community Center property.
The center consists of 4 bins on a paved area with an access road.
Two bins are 30 feet long for mixed recyclables. Two more bins are smaller ones for cardboard
boxes. (Boxes should be crushed first.) The Frederick County Recycling Program
monitors and empties the bins.
There has been an unfortunate problem of overflow of cardboard. The
second cardboard bin seems to have helped the problem.
Problems with this site should be reported as soon as possible to the
County Recycling Office (301-696-2960). Also, leave a message with the
Jim Carpenter (301-371-5263),
chair of the Environment Committee of Jefferson Ruritan.
County contacts are Lee Lambert, 301-694-2086 (LLambert@fredco-md.net
) and Phil Harris 301-696-2960 (PHarris@fredco-md.net
)
This project occurs every year on a Saturday in June from 9
a.m. to 1 p.m.
Take part in keeping the 150 year-old C&O Canal beautiful. Volunteers are needed to
help with vegetation removal along the C&O Canal at Lander. Join others who care about their national parks in this worthwhile project,
which is sponsored by the Lander Community Association and the C&O Canal. Refreshments
will be served.
Participants should meet at Lander on the canal. Lander is located off of Route 467.
Follow 2.8 miles, then turn left onto Lander Road. Travel 1.5 miles to the parking area.
For more information about the cleanup, contact John Lewis at 301-714-2238.
